At 4.2°C, Delhi sees coldest Jan morning in two years

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature fell to 4.2 degree Celsius, which was 2.7 degrees below the season’s average. This marked the coldest morning of the ongoing winter season since 2024.
The previous coldest January morning in the past two years was recorded on January 15, 2024, when the minimum temperature plunged to 3.3 degree Celsius, leading to cold wave conditions across the national capital.
Data from various weather stations reflected a widespread dip in temperatures. The minimum temperature at Safdarjung was recorded at 4.2 degree Celsius, Palam at 4.5 degree Celsius, Lodhi Road at 4.7 degree Celsius, Ridge at 5.3 degree Celsius and Ayanagar at 4.5 degree Celsius.
Saturday’s low followed Friday’s second coldest morning of the season, when the minimum temperature had settled at 4.6 degree Celsius degree Celsius. Earlier, the third lowest minimum temperature of this winter was recorded on December 4 and December 5, with readings of 5.6 degree Celsius, closely followed by December 1, when the mercury touched 5.7 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, air quality in the city remained a concern. At 4 pm on Saturday, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 346, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
As per CPCB standards, an AQI between 301 and 400 is classified as ‘very poor’, while readings above 400 fall in the ‘severe’ category.
