A 21-year-old youth, who was renting an EWS room behind Malibu Towne, died late Monday night after falling headlong onto a brazier, while he was asleep under the influence of alcohol. Half of his body was found on the bed, while a part of his head was found burnt on the brazier.
The police are treating the incident as an accident, but the deceased's maternal uncle suspects foul play. A senior police official said they were investigating the matter.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Manzoor Alam, a resident of Udi Pukhru village in South Dinajpur district in West Bengal. His maternal uncle Rizaul, who lived in a nearby room, said Manzoor had been living in Gurugram for about four years and worked as a delivery boy.
“After having dinner with Manzoor around 11.00 pm on Monday night, I went to my room and Manzoor, his friend Aman and another person were drinking alcohol. The other friend also went home in the night and Aman had slept with Manzoor. At 5.00am on Tuesday, Aman informed me that Manzoor had suffered burns after falling onto the brazier,” Rizaul told the police. He also expressed suspicion of a conspiracy behind the death of his nephew.
ASI Manjeet Kumar, the investigating officer, said the initial investigation revealed that Manzoor had been drinking with friends in his room. Late that night, while sleeping, he fell headlong from his bed onto the brazier, resulting in his death. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Further action will be taken following the report, he added.
