On the eve of the 136th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, BJP leaders and workers carried out cleanliness drives at around 200 locations across the capital and observed the occasion with a citywide "Deepotsav" by lighting lamps.
The initiative was led by the party's SC Morcha and saw participation from leaders including Tarun Chugh, Virendra Sachdeva, Harsh Malhotra, Lal Singh Arya, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Ravindra Indraj Singh, Arvinder Singh Lovely and Kailash Gehlot. Statues of Ambedkar in parks, memorials, and government offices were cleaned as part of the drive, and lamps were lit to mark the commemoration.
Events were held at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre, Ambedkar Park in Vishwas Nagar, India Gate lawns and the Dr Ambedkar National Memorial.
At the International Centre programme, Chugh and Sachdeva lit lamps and addressed workers. Chugh said BJP workers cleaned Ambedkar statues across the country and described the celebrations as creating a Diwali-like atmosphere, also linking it to PM Modi's women-centric initiatives aimed at ensuring "100 per cent rights to 50 per cent of the population." Sachdeva called Ambedkar a universally respected, highly educated nationalist leader whose vision remains forward-looking.
