BJP MP Tiwari lodges complaint against fake Facebook account
Case registered, cyber police station launches probe
The Delhi Police have registered an FIR after BJP MP Manoj Tiwari complained about a fake Facebook account allegedly being operated in his name, officials said on Saturday.
A probe has been initiated by the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi district.
According to the FIR, a Facebook account titled “Manoj Tiwari BJP”, bearing Tiwari’s photograph and marked as “verified”, had been active for some time. The Northeast
Delhi MP lodged a complaint against the fake account on January 22, stating that it had no association with him.
In his complaint, Tiwari said: “This account ID has no connection whatsoever with me and was created without my consent or authorisation. The account is being fraudulently operated by unidentified person(s) through the unauthorised and improper use of my name, photographs and videos.”
He alleged that his name, position and public image were being misused through the fake account by circulating misleading and false messages, calling it “extremely serious and objectionable.”
The FIR has been registered under Section 66C of the IT Act and Section 356(3) (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Sharing his complaint on X, Tiwari said an unidentified person was running the fake account as part of a conspiracy. He clarified that his real Facebook account carries a blue tick.
He also expressed concern that despite filing the complaint earlier, no action had been taken so far. “This person should be caught quickly and
given strict punishment,” he said.
