The Delhi Police arrested two people, one for sexually assaulting a UK woman while another one for molesting her at a hotel in southwest Delhi's Mahipalpur area, an officer said on Thursday.

"The woman registered a complaint about the matter, after which we arrested the two accused," a senior police officer told The Tribune.

Sharing further details, the officer said the incident occurred on March 11 when the UK national, who had recently arrived in India as a tourist, checked in at a hotel in Mahipalpur with one of the accused.

"The accused had befriended her on Instagram. She came to India for a holiday. She went to Goa first and then came to Delhi on March 11," the officer said.

According to the officer, the accused man came to meet the victim at the hotel. "She was sexually assaulted at the hotel," the officer said. The next day, the woman went to a hospital where she narrated her ordeal and then approached the police, who registered an FIR under relevant Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

In her complaint, she also told the cops that another man — who went along with her to pick up the luggage in the hotel — touched her inappropriately in the elevator. "We have also arrested the second accused," the officer said.

As per the norms, the Delhi Police have intimated the British High Commission about the incident and are providing all necessary help to the woman.
