Chahal said the initiative goes beyond plantation and represents a social commitment towards honouring mothers while promoting environmental responsibility. He added that regular plantation drives are being conducted not only on Sundays, but throughout the week to maintain momentum.

The NDMC has also prepared a year-long “Sunday Green Calendar” to organise plantation activities across locations, with multiple civic departments working together to ensure scientific planting and long-term maintenance of saplings.

Linking the initiative to broader national goals, Chahal said the campaign aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “Viksit Bharat @2047”, emphasising sustainable development and citizen participation.

During the programme, local residents also raised civic maintenance issues, following which the Vice-Chairman directed officials to address these within a stipulated timeframe.

Officials said the initiative aims to expand green cover while fostering a sense of shared environmental responsibility among citizens.
