According to Nuh police, the incident occurred near Shikrawa village on the Shikrawa-Bhadas road when the Meghalaya Police were taking the key accused, Rahul Khan, back to Meghalaya.

The police said the accused had been arrested on February 8 with the help of the CIA team of Punhana and handed over to the Meghalaya Police.

Officials said that around 6 pm, when the Meghalaya Police team was passing near HR-93 dhaba on the Shikrawa-Bhadas road, a group of local villagers and residents of Wajidpur allegedly gathered there and tried to free the accused.

During the confrontation, the crowd reportedly pelted the police team with stones, creating chaos. The police claimed that as the situation turned uncontrollable and a large crowd gathered, the Meghalaya Police opened fire in self-defence.

During the firing, Tarif, a resident of Shikrawa village, took a bullet in his leg. He was rushed to Nalhar Medical College.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Police team managed to reach Pinangwan police station with Rahul Khan, where local police officials are coordinating further action.

Sources in Nuh police said the firing was carried out to control the situation and ensure the custody of the accused, who is believed to be the main suspect in the ATM robbery case.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing police personnel firing during the confrontation. While some villagers have alleged excessive use of force by the police, officials maintain that the firing was a legal action taken in self-defence.
