CM files plaint against BJP’s Bidhuri for violating poll code
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Friday filed a complaint against Ramesh Bidhuri, BJP candidate from Kalkaji, for violating the Model Code of Conduct.
CM’s election agent Vijay Kumar lodged a formal complaint with the returning officer for the Kalkaji Assembly constituency alleging setting up an election office within 80 metres of a polling booth in Govindpuri, the party said.
“As per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, election offices cannot be established within 200 metres of a designated polling booth,” it added.
The complaint states that Bidhuri opened an election office at Banaras House, 1/42, DDA Local Shopping Complex, Govindpuri, in proximity to the MCD Co-ed School, Giri Nagar, which serves as a polling booth.
“This is a blatant contravention of the guidelines established by the Election Commission. As per the Model Code of Conduct, no election office should be set up within the prohibited distance of 200 metres from a polling station to ensure a fair and unbiased environment for voters,” the complaint read.
“This act can potentially influence the voters, creating an unfair advantage and undermining the integrity of the electoral process. It is imperative that immediate action is taken to rectify this situation, ensuring that the election is conducted in a fair and transparent manner,” it further added.
The complainant has requested for an investigation into the said allegations, immediate closure of the election office established by Ramesh Bidhuri, appropriate action against the individuals responsible for this violation and strict enforcement of the Election Code of Conduct.
The complainant has also provided photographic and video evidence of the alleged offence to substantiate the complaint.
