CM lays foundation of two Ambedkar varsity campuses

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia laid the foundation stone of two new campuses at Rohini and Dheerpur Village for Ambedkar University, Delhi (AUD) on Friday. 

Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof Anu Singh Lather was also present at the occasion. 

Equipped with auditoriums, workshops, laboratories, sports complexes, swimming pools, amphitheatres and hostels, the new campuses will be developed as world class institutions of learning.

Addressing the gathering at the site of the Dheerpur campus, the Chief Minister said, it was a day of happiness for the people of Delhi as the foundation stones for two large and beautiful university campuses were being laid in the city. 

At present the capacity of Ambedkar University is 3,400 and with the completion of these campuses within the next three to four years, it will be increased to 8,000, he said. 

“Our philosophy is that governance will be incomplete if the government fails to provide high quality education to students. There is no developed country in the world, which does not have a robust education system. The path for India to become a developed nation is to provide good education to our children irrespective of their socio-economic background,” said the CM.

On the challenges that lie ahead, he said, students after class XII look forward to job oriented courses that could fetch them good salary. “After graduation if they are unable to get jobs, it indicates there is a deficiency in our education system. We need to prepare our students for jobs” he said. 

“When we came to power, only 1.1 lakh seats were available in the colleges which have now improved to 1.5 lakh. Around 2.5 lakh students pass out of class XII each year, so a gap still remains and many a students have to drop out after class XII. We need to cater to 1 lakh more students. In order to enable the needy students to get employment, we are planning for world class skill centers and skill based courses,” he said. 

“In the last five years, 16 new colleges and constituent colleges have been opened by the Delhi Government. This is a huge feat. New BVoc colleges, two new constituent colleges of AUD, DTU have been opened, two DIETs, a medical college, a B Pharma University and NSUT - two new universities were opened,” said the deputy CM.
