Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today met a six-year-old minor rape victim admitted to Safdarjung Hospital.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson and members, who had first reported the case from Janakpuri on Monday.

Kejriwal also met father of the victim and enquired about her health condition from the senior doctors at the hospital.

The girl was allegedly raped by a rickshaw-puller in the West Delhi’s Janakpuri area on Monday, and the accused had been arrested.

The CM was informed that the minor’s condition was stable, though the treatment would take time and further surgeries were required to bring her to normalcy.

“I am horrified after seeing the condition of six year-old girl child in Safdarjung Hospital. Met her father. What society do we live in? Del govt will provide Rs 10 lakh financial assistance & best legal help. We will make best efforts so that accused gets exemplary punishment (sic),” the Chief Minister tweeted today after his visit to the hospital.

Kejriwal told the minor’s father that the government would provide a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the family and best lawyers would be provided to ensure harsh punishment to the accused.

He said the government would work in coordination with other organisations to ensure safety for children and women in the state. “Exemplary punishment must be given to those committing heinous crimes against minors so that an effective deterrent sends out a clear signal in the society,” said the CM.
