Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday took major steps to strengthen the Capital’s healthcare system. She inaugurated a new 10-bed medical ICU at Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) hospital, launched a modern GI HD video endoscopy suite, and rolled out an integrated AYUSH stress management programme.
In a simultaneous move, Delhi CM also laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art OPD building at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), aimed at improving efficiency and reducing waiting times for mental healthcare services.
CM Gupta said Delhi is working in “mission mode” to upgrade healthcare facilities to world-class standards. She noted that the newly inaugurated ICU is equipped with advanced machines and will ensure high-quality treatment for critically ill patients, while the GI HD video endoscopy suite will enable faster and more accurate diagnosis of gastrointestinal disorders.
Highlighting the rising burden of stress, the Chief Minister announced the operationalisation of AYUSH OPDs at multiple institutions, including ayurvedic and homoeopathic colleges, offering interventions such as yoga, lifestyle counselling and digital detox programmes.
CM Gupta also expressed confidence that the new OPD at IHBAS would significantly enhance operational capacity, streamline consultations and benefit lakhs of patients across Delhi and the NCR. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the expansion of GTB Hospital’s nearly 1,500-bed capacity to provide timely and quality healthcare.
Speaking at the event, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the initiatives demonstrate the government’s dedication to transforming Delhi’s healthcare into a national model and urged doctors and healthcare workers to continue serving with dedication.
