CM Rekha Gupta joins ‘Shakti Walk’ at Kartavya Path

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday participated in the ‘Shakti Walk – #SheLeadsBharat’ at Kartavya Path on the occasion of International Women’s Day, highlighting the importance of women’s leadership in nation building.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, began from India Gate and covered nearly 2 km before concluding at Vijay Chowk.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi, Union Ministers of State Anupriya Patel and Savitri Thakur, along with several other dignitaries, took part in the walk.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasised the role of women in shaping society and the nation. She said, “Women are not only the backbone of families but also powerful partners in nation building.”

Highlighting the progress made in recent years, she said women across the country are increasingly taking up leadership roles in diverse sectors such as science, administration, entrepreneurship, education, sports and defence.

Calling the initiative a symbol of collective commitment to women’s empowerment, Gupta said the walk provided a platform to recognise and celebrate the leadership and contributions of women. She added that the event also reflects the growing confidence and participation of women in public life.

The Chief Minister further underlined the importance of creating opportunities and support systems for women. She said, “Empowered women will ensure the progress of society and the nation.”

According to officials, nearly 3,000 women from different sectors participated in the Shakti Walk. Participants included women from the armed forces, police, healthcare services, the sports community, government institutions and grassroots workers such as Anganwadi and ASHA workers. Representatives from more than 150 ministries, departments and organisations also joined the event.

Special 2D and 3D installations were displayed along Kartavya Path showcasing the contributions of women in various fields. The installations carried themes such as She Inspires Bharat, She Connects Bharat, She Governs Bharat, She Innovates Bharat, She Empowers Bharat and She Nurtures Bharat, highlighting the role of women in different sectors.

A cultural programme celebrating national pride was also presented at India Gate by the Sangeet Natak Akademi. After completing the walk, participants were presented with participation medals in recognition of their enthusiasm and contribution to the event.

The programme was attended by several dignitaries, including National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, marking a large gathering dedicated to celebrating women’s leadership and empowerment.
