Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday participated in the National Conference of Women Thinkers titled ‘Bharati – Nari Se Narayani’ at Vigyan Bhawan, where she spoke about the evolving role of women in nation building and highlighted initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s empowerment.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasised the growing role of women in shaping the country’s development. She said, “Women are not only carriers of tradition but also agents of change.”
The conference brought together women thinkers, scholars and leaders from across the country to deliberate on various aspects of women’s leadership, empowerment and social transformation.
Speaking at the event, Gupta said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, women’s empowerment in India has emerged as a powerful force contributing to national strength.
She noted that in Indian culture women have always been regarded as symbols of strength, creation and values in ancient texts and traditions.
Emphasising the progress made in empowering women over the years, the Chief Minister said, “India’s journey of women’s empowerment has progressed from ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ to ‘Beti Badhao’.”
Highlighting initiatives undertaken by the Delhi Government, Gupta said efforts were being made to promote economic and social self-reliance among women.
She said schemes such as the ‘Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’ aim to secure the future of daughters, while the ‘Saheli Pink Smart Card’ is intended to ensure safe and accessible public transport for women.
She also spoke about measures to strengthen women’s participation in economic activities, including the provision of collateral-free loans to working women and the decision to allow women to work night shifts.
Gupta said women today are not only the backbone of families and communities but are increasingly shaping the direction of national progress through leadership, innovation and decision-making across fields such as science, education, entrepreneurship, administration, sports and defence.
The CM expressed confidence that platforms such as the conference would strengthen women’s leadership and encourage greater participation in social and national development.
