Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday underscored the vital role of sports in shaping well-rounded individuals, saying, “Sports is the first school of discipline, self-confidence and teamwork.”
The CM was addressing a gathering during the annual sports day of Delhi Public School (DPS), Mathura Road. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh was also present at the event. Highlighting the broader impact of sports education, the Chief Minister said participation in sports helped inculcate leadership skills, teamwork, positive thinking and resilience among children, laying a strong foundation for success in all spheres of life.
She exhorted students to participate wholeheartedly, embrace healthy competition and maintain a balance between academics and sports.
Calling children central to the vision of national development, the Chief Minister said, “Children are the brand ambassadors of a Viksit Delhi and a Viksit Bharat.”
She added that, when children practised discipline, followed rules and adopted cleanliness as a way of life, positive influence naturally extended to families, and society at large, contributing to a cleaner, more disciplined and developed Delhi.
Emphasising the role of schools in nation-building, Gupta said there was no better platform than educational institutions to nurture responsible and empowered citizens.
She said today’s students would emerge as tomorrow’s leaders, and play a key role in establishing Delhi as an ideal and developed Capital.
Students, teachers, school management and parents were among those present at the event.
Extending her best wishes to all students, the Chief Minister said a healthy and strong India could be built only through sportsmanship, discipline and dedication.
She conveyed Republic Day greetings to the gathering, and called upon everyone to work collectively towards achieving the goals of ‘Vision 2047’.
