Cong Purvanchal committee chairman, supporters join BJP
The Congress suffered a major blow ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. Shivji Singh, chairman of the Delhi Congress Purvanchal Committee, along with his supporters, officially joined the BJP on Friday.
The joining ceremony took place in the presence of Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and MP Manoj Tiwari. Sachdeva welcomed Shivji Singh into the party by presenting him with a party scarf.
Tiwari appreciated Singh’s decision to join the BJP, emphasising the positive impact it would have on the party’s outreach to the Purvanchali community in Delhi.
Sachdeva lauded Singh for his 15-year-long contributions, particularly in organising the World Bhojpuri Conference and strengthening the presence of Bhojpuri artists. He said Singh’s experience and leadership would be pivotal in uniting the Purvanchali communities in Delhi, thereby bolstering the BJP’s ties with this influential demographic.
MP Manoj Tiwari, who has had a long association with Singh, expressed his happiness at the move. “For the past 24 years, Shivji Singh has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights and development of Purvanchalis in Delhi. His support has been instrumental in my own journey in the city, and I am thrilled to welcome him into the BJP today,” Tiwari said.
Singh explained his decision to leave Congress after 35 years of association. He cited growing dissatisfaction with the party’s treatment of the Purvanchali community. “I have always fought for the Purvanchali cause within the Congress, but it seems we no longer have a voice. The BJP, on the other hand, has always shown respect for our community. So, I have decided to join them,” Singh stated.
Singh’s departure is seen as a major blow to the Congress in Delhi, particularly as the Purvanchali vote plays a crucial role in the city’s politics. His move is expected to strengthen the BJP’s position as it continues to woo the Purvanchali population ahead of the upcoming elections.
