Congress launches poll anthem
Ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the Congress unveiled its new campaign anthem, “Har Jarurat Hogi Puri, Dilli Mein Congress Hai Jaruri,” during a press conference on Thursday.
The 2.48-minute anthem aims to showcase the party’s vision for the city while also targeting both rival parties – the ruling AAP and the opposition BJP.
The anthem takes aim at the AAP government’s broken promises, with lyrics highlighting major concerns among Delhi residents, such as pollution in the Yamuna and poor quality of drinking water.
“Yamuna saaf nahi, pani na saaf hai,” the song boldly proclaims, capturing the widespread frustration with the city’s deteriorating infrastructure under the AAP rule. The anthem reflects a growing disillusionment with the present government, accusing them of failing to address basic issues that affect daily life in Delhi.
In addition to criticising the AAP, the anthem promotes the Congress vision for the Capital, including several key promises aimed at improving the lives of Delhi residents. The song mentions free electricity for households (up to 300 units), “Pyari Didi Yojana” that would provide Rs 2,500 per month to women from low-income families and measures for improving safety for women.
The anthem also touches safety concerns, claiming that despite AAP’s promises, women in Delhi continue to feel unsafe while the government continue on focus on issues like alcohol sales instead.
The anthem, which will be played across all Assembly constituencies, also graphically criticises the Kejriwal-led government, highlighting how the AAP’s mismanagement has eroded the city’s potential over the last decade.
The anthem underscores the five core guarantees of Congress, including Rs 2,500 per month “Pyari Didi Yojana” for women, Rs 25 lakh lifetime health insurance for all residents, Rs 8,500 monthly scholarships for educated, Rs 500 subsidised cooking gas cylinder and 300 units of free electricity for households.
During the press event, several prominent Congress leaders, including Devender Yadav, Pawan Khera, Ahilesh Prasad Singh and Ragini Nayak, joined in the celebration of the anthem’s launch. The leaders danced to the song, engaging with the media and emphasising the party’s renewed connection with the people of Delhi.
“Delhi is troubled and the people’s expectations from the government have not been met. The Congress is the only party that can address the real issues of Delhi,” said Devender Yadav, president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee.
Pawan Khera, chairman of the AICC Media and Publicity Department, said: “These songs capture our promises and the enthusiasm of the Congress. Our connection with people is stronger than ever, and this anthem is a reflection of that enthusiasm.”
Party leader Akhilesh Prasad Singh said the anthem would strike a chord with Delhi residents, reminding them of the hardships they have faced under the AAP government. He also expressed confidence that the Congress guarantees would resonate with voters, reinforcing the party’s commitment to fulfilling its promises.
Ragini Nayak, Congress candidate from Wazirpur, said: “People of Delhi are going to enjoy this song. The solutions to all problems faced by the people of Delhi are in this song. The political atmosphere of Delhi is shifting in favor of Congress.”
With the launch of the anthem, the Congress aims to energise its supporters and solidify its standing as a viable alternative to the AAP and the BJP ahead of the February 5 elections. The anthem, with its catchy tune and clear message, seeks to strengthen the party’s connection with Delhi voters and address their most pressing concerns.
