The Faridabad police arrested a convicted criminal, who was wanted for 22 years. The accused was sentenced to 10 years in 2003 and was absconding after getting bail. A reward of Rs 5,000 was announced on his arrest and he was arrested on Friday from Bihar.
In a case of armed robbery which took place in sector 17, Faridabad in January 2001, the Faridabad police had arrested the accused. The accused was identified as Hira Kumar Raut, a resident of Vaishali district, Bihar.
According to a spokesperson of the Faridabad police, in 2003, the District Court sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment. He was subsequently granted bail by the court in 2004, but has been absconding ever since. Following this, the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued a warrant for his re-arrest.
The Faridabad police had announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for the accused’s arrest. Acting on technical and intelligence information, the Crime Branch, Sector 56, arrested the accused, Hira Kumar Raut, from Saharsa district, Bihar. The accused has been granted transit remand from the District Court in Saharsa, Bihar. He will be produced before the District Court in Faridabad soon,” added a spokesperson of the Faridabad police.
