Cops lodge over 500 poll code violation cases, nab 17K persons

The Delhi Police have registered more than 500 cases in violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the Assembly elections in the national capital, officials said on Thursday. These cases were registered between January 7 and January 22.

According to police officials, “A total of 504 cases have been registered against individuals and groups for violating the Model Code of Conduct.”

The police have also seized 270 unlicensed arms and 372 cartridges, they said.

“A total of 44,256 liters of liquor valued at more than Rs 1.3 crore have been seized. Further, 110.53 kg of drugs, valued at more than Rs 20 crore, along with 1,200 injections, have also been recovered,” another official said.

The police have also made significant recoveries of cash and precious metals. A substantial amount of cash, totalling Rs 4,56,03,745, has been recovered. They also recovered 0.850 kg of gold and 37.39 kg of silver.

“A total of 17,879 persons have been arrested under provisions of preventive action and other acts,” the officials stated.
