In a swift and courageous operation, a 30-year-old man, who attempted suicide by jumping off the Signature Bridge into the Yamuna here on Tuesday afternoon, was rescued by a police team.
According to police officials, the victim, identified as Vicky, a resident of Dhaka Gaon in Delhi, took the extreme step around 12.20 pm following a heated argument with his father.
Fortunately, a police patrol team comprising Head Constables Ajay, Om Parkash and Mula Ram was stationed near the area. It noticed the incident and swung into action without delay.
Senior officers were immediately alerted and a rescue operation was launched with the assistance of local divers and a boat. Vicky was eventually pulled out of the river in a semi-conscious state.
The police team provided him with first aid and ensured he received timely medical attention. After his condition stabilised, he was reunited with his family.
Officials said the prompt action by the beat staff averted a potential tragedy. The police have urged citizens to reach out for help and support in times of distress rather than resort to extreme measures.
