Tension escalated at Miranda House College (DU) on Wednesday as hostellers staged a protest outside Gate number 7, alleging deteriorating food quality and administrative indifference amid an ongoing LPG supply crisis.Students claimed that meals had become increasingly inadequate over the past week, with many being served dry bread, packaged snacks and other non cooked items instead of proper, nutritious food. They alleged that the situation, which was already concerning, had worsened significantly due to the disruption in cooking gas supply.

Anjali, a student activist affiliated with AISA, told The Tribune that residents have been struggling with the situation for days. “This has been going on for the last one week. The hostel staff is giving Lotte Choco Pie, bread and other cold items that do not require cooking. Proper meals are not being provided to us,” she said.

Several protesting students expressed frustration over what they described as “complete administrative apathy”, questioning why residents are being made to bear the consequences of mismanagement. “We are paying for proper hostel facilities, including food."

Instead, we are being forced to survive on snacks and dry items. This is unacceptable,” said a hostel resident participating in the protest.

Access to nutritious food is a basic right and not a privilege, they said. The students has demanded immediate intervention by the college administration to resolve the crisis and restore proper meal services.

As of now, there has been no official response from the Miranda House administration regarding the students allegations.
