According to an official notification, Fire Department officers inspected the DDA Convention Centre in the presence of an assistant engineer on December 8.

The building, comprising a basement and ground floor, was found to have several non-functional fire safety systems. These included first-aid hose reels, automatic fire detection and alarm system, automatic sprinkler system, mechanical smoke exhaust (MOEFA), down-comer system, pumping arrangements and the terrace pump.

Due to these shortcomings, its application for renewal of the fire safety certificate was rejected, the notification read.

On the same day, the Fire Department also inspected a community hall in the area, comprising a ground floor and three upper floors.

Officials found that first-aid hose reels, manually operated electronic fire alarm (MOEFA), down-comer system and the terrace pump were not functional. Additionally, lift signage was found missing. As a result, the application for this renewal of fire safety certificate was rejected.

The Fire Department stated that occupying the premises without proper fire safety arrangements would be entirely at the risk and liability of the owner or occupier. It also warned that the licensing or statutory authorities may take necessary action as deemed fit in view of the safety violations.
