18-year-old boy swept away in Delhi drain after heavy rain, rescue operation under way
Youth reportedly slipped near Priyanka Camp Nala in Madanpur Khadar and was swept away by the strong water current; DDMA and Delhi Fire Service teams deployed
An 18-year-old boy was swept away in a drain in the Madanpur Khadar area of southeast Delhi after heavy rain in the national capital, with search and rescue teams continuing efforts to trace him.
According to the police, two PCR calls regarding the incident were received on Friday — the first at 8.31 pm at the Kalindi Kunj police station and the second at 8.54 pm at the Sarita Vihar police station. The incident reportedly took place around 8 pm at Priyanka Camp Nala in Madanpur Khadar, within the jurisdiction of the Sarita Vihar police station.
The police said a team, including a sub-inspector and beat staff, was immediately sent to the spot. During a preliminary inquiry, Manish, 23, a resident of Bhim Colony, Ali Vihar, told the police that his friend Ankit, son of Sunil and also a resident of Bhim Colony, Ali Vihar, was returning from Noida when he accidentally slipped near the drain and was swept away by the strong water current.
Following the information, a search and rescue operation was launched with the assistance of the DDMA East Rescue Team and the Delhi Fire Service. A fire tender, WT-74, was also deployed for the operation.
Despite sustained efforts, Ankit could not be traced till the latest update. The search and rescue operation is continuing.
