Delhi Assembly grants 3‑day extension to Punjab Police officials to file reply on FIR
The three officials had earlier sought a 10‑day extension to file their reply
Delhi Assembly Speaker on Tuesday granted a three‑day extension to three senior Punjab Police officials to file their reply regarding the registration of an FIR in Jalandhar over a video of the House proceedings dated January 6.
The Assembly had earlier issued notices to the officials — for ‘breach of Delhi Assembly’s privileges’ — seeking their replies within 48 hours regarding the registration of an FIR against Delhi Law Minister Kapil Mishra over a video clip of the Assembly.
According to the latest official communication issued by Assembly Secretariat, the police officers have been directed to submit their reply on or before January 15.
“Your request seeking additional time for submitting your reply was placed before the Speaker, Delhi Assembly. The Speaker has directed that, in view of the gravity of the matter, the reply in this regard should be submitted on or before January 15, 2026, positively,” the letter read.
A day earlier, the three officials — the Director General of Police (Punjab), the Special Director General of Police (Cyber Crime), and the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar — had sought a 10‑day extension to file their reply.
“It is requested that additional time of 10 days may kindly be granted without any prejudice in the interest of justice for submitting. the comprehensive report on the subject matter,” read a letter seeking extension by Jalandhar Police Commissioner.
It is noteworthy to mention that the Assembly on Saturday had sought an explanation from Punjab Police regarding registration of FIR when the matter has already been referred to the Committee of Privileges of the Delhi Assembly.
They were directed to file a rely within 48 hours or before January 12.
