Delhi boxer's murder: Accused on run for 9 months, arrested from Chandigarh
A proclaimed offender, Dahiya was the main assailant who opened fire on the victim in a pre-planned and targeted attack, killing him on the spot
In a significant breakthrough, Delhi police arrested a proclaimed offender and alleged sharpshooter Vikas Dahiya alias Sonu alias Thekedar from Chandigarh, nearly nine months after he went absconding in a high-profile murder case, an official said on Monday.
The cop added that Dahiya (42), a resident of Kharkhoda in Haryana’s Sonipat district, was wanted in connection with the July 30, 2025, murder of Vikas Dagar alias Bhinda, a boxing player from Delhi.
Police said Dahiya was the main assailant who opened fire on the victim in a pre-planned and targeted attack, killing him on the spot.
Declared a proclaimed offender by a Dwarka court in October 2025, Dahiya had been on the run, frequently changing hideouts across multiple states and relying on a network of associates to evade arrest, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Pankaj Kumar said in a statement.
According to Kumar, a Crime Branch team tracked him down following a specific intelligence input about his presence in Chandigarh.
Acting swiftly, the team conducted technical surveillance and field verification before carrying out a well-coordinated raid, leading to his arrest without any resistance, he said.
The cop further revealed that Dahiya, along with his associates, had conspired to eliminate Dagar due to a longstanding rivalry.
On the day of the incident, the accused reached the spot in a coordinated manner, identified the target, and allegedly fired multiple rounds, while his accomplices facilitated the execution and escape, Kumar said.
The arrest has also brought focus to Dahiya’s criminal past. He was earlier convicted in a 2010 murder case in Sonipat, where he had fired multiple rounds at a rival due to enmity. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012 but was later released on bail by the High Court. Police said the latest murder was committed while he was out on bail.
During interrogation, Dahiya reportedly confessed to his role as the main shooter and shared details about his accomplices. He also disclosed that co-accused Sumit Rana alias Chhotu had been hiding in Zirakpur but managed to flee before police could reach him, the official mentioned.
Two of his associates — Sumit Rana and Krishan Dahiya alias Maharaj — remain absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend them, he said.
Police described Dahiya as a hardened criminal with a history of involvement in serious offences, including murder and illicit liquor smuggling across states such as Bihar and Gujarat.
