Delhi Cabinet clears Barapullah Phase III, MB Road elevated corridor projects
The Cabinet cleared a revised cost of Rs 1,635.03 crore for the Barapullah Phase III elevated road
The government on Monday approved two major road infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across the capital, including the long-pending Barapullah Phase III elevated corridor and a six-lane elevated corridor on MB Road.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat.
According to officials, the Cabinet cleared a revised cost of Rs 1,635.03 crore for the Barapullah Phase III elevated road, which will run over the Barapullah drain and connect Sarai Kale Khan with Mayur Vihar. Once completed, the corridor will provide signal-free connectivity between East Delhi and South Delhi, allowing commuters to travel directly from Mayur Vihar to All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
Officials said the project is expected to ease congestion around Sarai Kale Khan, Ring Road, the DND Flyway and NH-24, and reduce travel time for thousands of daily commuters. The government has set a target of completing the project by June 30.
The CM said delays in the project during the previous government’s tenure would be investigated by the Anti-Corruption Branch, Delhi, to determine the reasons behind the hold-up.
In addition, the Cabinet approved a Rs 1,471.14-crore project for a six-lane elevated corridor along MB Road from Saket to Pul Prahladpur. The project will be executed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and implemented in two phases.
The first phase will include construction of a double-decker integrated structure between Saket G-Block and Sangam Vihar, Delhi, comprising a six-lane flyover, a six-lane underpass at Saket G-Block and additional connecting ramps and underpasses. The second phase will involve construction of a nearly 2.48-km-long elevated flyover from Maa Anandmayee Marg to Pul Prahladpur.
According to the government, the project will help ease heavy congestion on MB Road and improve connectivity between Saket, Ambedkar Nagar, Delhi, Khanpur, Sangam Vihar and Pul Prahladpur, significantly reducing travel time for commuters.
