Delhi Cong chief for probe against health dept over ‘misuse’ of funds
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) President Devender Yadav today called for an investigation into alleged corruption within the Delhi Government’s Health Department. Yadav’s demand comes in light of recent developments involving the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Delhi, which has reportedly taken up a complaint concerning the Health Department under Health Minister Saurav Bhardwaj and former Health Minister Satyender Jain.
Yadav criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s so-called “Delhi Model of Education and Health,” alleging that these claims have been used to mask widespread corruption. “The AAP government has made grandiose claims about its achievements in health and education. However, the reality is far from these claims. There is clear evidence of corruption in the Health Department and in the construction of new school buildings,” Yadav said.
He accused the government of misusing public funds, particularly in relation to mohalla clinics and purportedly fake medical tests. “Crores of rupees of taxpayers’ money have been siphoned off under the guise of these clinics, where tests were billed but never actually conducted. This is a matter that falls under the ACB’s investigation,” Yadav asserted.
Yadav also pointed to alleged exploitation during the COVID-19 pandemic, accusing the government of profiting from the crisis. “The government took advantage of the pandemic by amassing thousands of crores for temporary COVID care centres, medical supplies, and even selling hospital beds at a premium,” he claimed.
In light of these allegations, Yadav has called on the Lt Governor to mandate a thorough investigation. “The Lt Governor should order a comprehensive probe into corruption within the Health Department. The current state of infrastructure in Delhi government hospitals is appalling, with severe issues in the procurement of medical equipment and materials. Despite these issues, the Kejriwal government continues to portray itself as a beacon of integrity,” Yadav said.
