Delhi govt doubles allocation of 5 kg LPG cylinders for migrant workers
The enhanced allocation, implemented through an April 7 order, will ease challenges faced by migrant labourers in procuring smaller LPG cylinders
The Government of NCT of Delhi has doubled the daily allocation of 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders from 684 to 1,368 for migrant workers, following a 100 per cent increase approved by the Government of India. This aims to improve access to affordable cooking fuel for thousands of migrant workers in Delhi.
The enhanced allocation, implemented through an April 7 order, will ease challenges faced by migrant labourers in procuring smaller LPG cylinders, suitable for their mobility and living conditions.
District administrations will organise special camps in areas with high migrant worker concentrations, in coordination with oil marketing companies, to ensure eligible beneficiaries can access 5 kg LPG cylinders. Migrant workers facing difficulties can approach the District Magistrate’s office to request camps in their locality.
The initiative will bridge gaps in accessibility and reduce dependence on informal fuel sources. Camps will function alongside the existing LPG distribution network, strengthening the supply chain. Beneficiaries can obtain cylinders upon payment and Aadhaar submission.
District Enforcement Teams will monitor the process, assess demand, and ensure transparency and efficiency in distribution.
