Delhi Police conduct mock drills at Kalkaji Mandir, Nehru Place ahead of Independence Day
Exercise includes simulated neutralisation of terrorists, evacuation of injured person, incident-site sanitisation, crowd management
Delhi Police conducted mock security drills at Kalkaji Mandir and Nehru Place in southwest Delhi as part of enhanced security preparedness ahead of Independence Day.
The drills were aimed at assessing the operational readiness, emergency response capabilities and inter-agency coordination of the police and allied agencies in dealing with simulated terrorist attacks and bomb-related emergencies.
At Kalkaji Mandir, the drill was conducted from 9 pm to 12:30 am on Friday. As per the exercise scenario, the National Security Guard (NSG) created two simulated bomb blast situations at different locations within the temple premises.
A mock PCR call was generated by the beat officer and transmitted through the Police Control Room, following which the local police and concerned emergency response agencies activated their respective Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The NSG, SWAT team, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), Bomb Detection Team (BDT), Dog Squad, Delhi Police PCR, Tiger PCR, Traffic Police, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Delhi Fire Service and Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) participated in the exercise.
The BDS and BDT, assisted by the Dog Squad, carried out bomb detection and anti-sabotage checks, while the NSG and SWAT team neutralised the two simulated terrorists as per the exercise scenario.
A mock injured person was evacuated and transported to AIIMS by a PCR vehicle within 20 minutes of the simulated incident.
The exercise also tested the emergency medical evacuation mechanism, including coordinated rescue, safe movement through the affected area and timely medical assistance.
A separate mock drill was conducted at Nehru Place, a major commercial and high-footfall area, to assess the preparedness of police and allied agencies to respond to a simulated terrorist attack and other emergencies in a densely populated commercial environment.
Two simulated bomb blast situations were created at different locations, following which a mock PCR call activated the emergency response mechanism.
Police personnel and specialised teams rushed to the designated locations, secured and cordoned off the affected area, regulated public movement and implemented traffic diversions to facilitate the movement of emergency and rescue vehicles.
The NSG, SWAT team, BDS, BDT and Dog Squad conducted systematic searches, bomb detection, and anti-sabotage checks. Delhi Police PCR, Tiger PCR, Traffic Police, Delhi Fire Service, DDMA and CATS also participated in the coordinated response.
The exercise included simulated neutralisation of terrorists, evacuation of an injured person, incident-site sanitisation, crowd management, traffic regulation and emergency medical response, thereby testing the complete response chain from detection and containment of the threat to rescue and medical evacuation.
