The project — short for Synergistic Action & Networked Governance for Area Mobility — seeks to bring together multiple stakeholders, including Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Market Welfare Associations (MWAs), and civic agencies such as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Public Works Department (PWD) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), to co-create area-specific traffic solutions.
Speaking on social media platform X, LG Sandhu said: “Following my visit and guidance on April 2, I am pleased to note that @dtptraffic has launched Project SANGAM — Synergistic Action & Networked Governance for Area Mobility. Rooted in the philosophy of collaborative governance, this initiative seeks to deliver citizen-centric, ground-up traffic solutions by actively involving communities in the decision-making process.”
He added that by bringing RWAs, MWAs and civic agencies onto a common platform, the project enables real-time resolution of issues ranging from unauthorised parking to pedestrian safety.
Highlighting progress so far, the LG said: “So far, 30 meetings have been conducted across key areas, including Connaught Place, Saket and Karol Bagh, engaging over 6,000 residents in the process. This proactive and inclusive approach ensures that all stakeholders work together towards making Delhi’s roads smoother, safer and more organised.”
Since its rollout on April 3, the initiative has held 30 meetings across several parts of the city, generating over 50 actionable suggestions on issues such as unauthorised parking, e-rickshaw management, wrong-side driving, encroachment, signal timing and pedestrian safety.
The initiative is currently operational in key areas including Connaught Place, Khan Market, Chanakyapuri, Defence Colony, South Extension, Rajouri Garden, Saket and Karol Bagh, among others, and is expected to expand to other localities.
To ensure accountability and follow-through, all suggestions and meeting minutes are being recorded in a central digital repository, enabling authorities to track issues from identification to resolution.
Based on citizen inputs, enforcement drives have led to the issuance of thousands of e-challans, along with towing and clamping of vehicles. Authorities have also initiated infrastructure-related interventions in coordination with civic bodies, including road repairs, installation of signage, adjustment of signal timings and anti-encroachment drives.
Additional personnel have been deployed in several areas to improve on-ground traffic management.
Officials said the project aims to replace a complaint-driven approach with a collaborative model, where residents actively participate in shaping traffic solutions for their neighbourhoods.
