New Delhi, February 26

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has released Rs 1 crore to the Haryana Government for restoration of damaged portion of the Munak Canal on an emergency basis. Besides, two heavy earth movers were provided to Haryana Irrigation Department on February 24.

Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today appreciated the efforts of the DJB in managing the national Capital's water crisis due to the Jat agitation and wrote a letter to CEO Keshav Chandra.

Government officials said senior officers of the DJB have also been deployed for monitoring the restoration work of this canal that is likely to be completed within the next 15 days.

Damage to the Carrier Lined Channel (CLC) near Mundela village (Haryana) by the agitators led to a crisis of drinking water in Delhi. The CLC is totally dry due to this damage.

Since Dwarka WTP of 40 MGD capacity has been shut down due to the non-availability of water in CLC, around 10 MGD of filtered water has been diverted from the Nangloi WTP. The water to Dwarka subcity and the adjoining unauthorized colonies is being supplied from the command tank 2 and 4.

The production at all WTPs except Dwarka has been maximised and the total production has gone up to 830 MGD which is likely to be further augmented up to 840 MGD.

Tankers have been diverted from Central North Delhi and East Delhi towards South West District to supplement drinking water. All the tubewells in the water deficit areas have been made functional and are being operated. Thirty new tankers have also been pushed into service.

DJB extends rebate scheme

The Delhi Jal Board's rebate scheme related to water bills pending till November 2015 will now be valid till July-end. The benefits of the scheme can be availed from February 15 to the said date.

Under the scheme, 100 per cent Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC) waiver will be given to all domestic consumers whereas rebate in principle amount will be on the basis of category of colonies applicable for house tax purpose.

Consumers living in E,F,G and H category colonies having a functional water meter will automatically get a zero bill.

People living in C category will receive 50 per cent exemption while A and B category areas will be given exemption up to 25 per cent on the water bills. The Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC) will be totally waived in all the categories.

Consumers who will install the meter after commencement of the scheme are required to give an application mentioning their details and the form may be dropped in the “Meter Installation Intimation Box” placed at the ZRO offices. For any assistance, consumers may call on the Revenue Grievance Cell telephone number-23526205 on all working days.
