New Delhi, July 15
The Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) has expressed concern over paltry loans given to a small number of minorities in the capital and has summoned officials of Delhi SC/ ST/ OBC/ Minorities and Handicapped Financial and Development Corporation (DSFDC) to explain reasons for the same.
A notice was recently issued in this regard by DMC, following which in its response, the state-owned DSFDC has stated that in financial year 2017-18, 18 loan applications from minorities were received, in which 16 were approved, while one was rejected and the other is still processing.
DMC chairperson Zafarul Islam Khan said, “The beneficiaries included 14 Muslims and two Sikhs, who got loans total Rs 15.5 lakh.”
As per Census 2011 report, minorities form about 20 per cent of Delhi's population. Muslims alone were nearly 13 percent. — TNS
