District authorities have asked the departments concerned to ensure that measures are being undertaken to curb malaria and dengue this winter.

The Palwal Municipal Council and panchayats have been asked to conduct fogging every two weeks in their respective areas as part of the drive.

Civil Surgeon Dr Jai Bhagwan Jatain said directions had been issued to the Malaria Department and the civic agency, keeping in view of the fact that waterlogging and lack of cleanliness due to rainfall could result in a surge in the prevalence of mosquito larvae, and may lead to fever and viral infection.

The number of dengue, malaria and chikungunya cases recorded in 2024 was lower than 2023, he added.

He said besides conducting a door-to-door survey, the Health Department would conduct rapid tests of all types of fever cases.

Directions had been issued to conduct physical checking through a team of 20 employees — called ‘Breeding Checkers’. Also, rapid fever surveys were conducted between the 1st and the 10th day of each month at various health centres, he added.

He said residents had been asked to observe a ‘Dry Day’ at the community level every Sunday so that there was no accumulation of garbage or dirty water in residential areas.

Between January 1 and December 31 last year, the department issued 1,768 notices to households after detecting mosquito larvae.

The district recorded 29 cases of dengue, 12 cases of chikungunya and two cases of malaria last year.

No such case has surfaced this year so far, it is revealed.

The department has launched the 01275-240022 helpline number for assistance and complaints regarding vector-borne diseases.
