A road accident in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden late last night has left a 33-year-old taxi driver critically injured, with the police suspecting drunk driving by the accused, officials said on Saturday.
The incident was reported around 3:29 am on Saturday near ICICI Bank on Najafgarh Road, close to Pillar No. 408. After a PCR call, officials from the Rajouri Garden police station reached the spot and found two damaged vehicles — a Tata Harrier SUV and a Swift Dzire taxi.
According to an eyewitness, the taxi was parked on the extreme left side of the road when it was hit from behind by the SUV, allegedly being driven at a high speed from the Raja Garden side.
The injured taxi driver, identified as Narender Kumar (33), sustained serious head injuries. He was initially taken to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital by the Harrier driver and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital, where he is admitted to the ICU.
The police said the SUV driver, Vikas Rathore (30), underwent a medical examination which revealed a high blood alcohol content, indicating he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Further legal action is being taken.
