Interstate narcotics drug cartel, who used to buy drugs from naxal affected areas in Jharkhand, has been busted by Delhi Police Special cell, who have arrested three key members: Akhtar Ali (41), Jahangir (29) — both resident of Delhi and Jenulabdin (49), resident of Jharkhand; with 3 kg of heroin and 1 kg of Alprazolam worth Rs 15 crores in international market, said police.

The members were arrested from near Ambedkar Nagar bus stand, MB Road here; and a Swift Dezire car used for supplying drugs has also been seized, police said.

Special Cell (South) were working on an information that an interstate narcotics cartel is active in the states of Jharkhand, West Bengal, UP and Delhi, said DCP P.S Kushwah (special cell).

Members of this cartel are involved in supply of high grade heroin in Meerut (UP), Delhi and adjoining states. This information was further developed through human surveillance. During this process, members of this cartel including the kingpin Ali were identified and their activities were kept under discreet surveillance, he said.

On August 11, information was received by the cell officer that two persons including Ali would deliver a big consignment of heroin to one of their contacts near Ambedkar Nagar bus stand between 1 am to 2 am. Accordingly, the police laid a trap near the bus stand in the intervening night of August 11-12, the DCP said.

At about 1 am, Ali and Jahangir arrived near the bus stand in the car and were waiting for a person, who came from the Khanpur side and stopped near the car. Ali handed over a packet to the third person, identified as Jenulabdin. Police swooped in and apprehended all the three persons, he said.

Three kgs of heroin and 1 kg of Alprazolam were recovered from the trio, DCP Kushwah added.
