A 40-year-old drunk woman was arrested for ramming a car into a picket and injuring a constable in northwest Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area, the police said on Friday.
A caller informed the Shahbad Dairy police station that a car rammed into a police barricade at a picket and injured one of the cops.
The woman, who was behind the wheels, appeared to be heavily drunk. She even refused to come out of the car, an official said. She was identified as Arti Jain, a resident of Sector 16, Rohini.
A police team immediately reached the spot and found that the vehicle had hit the barricade, injuring Constable Rohit, who was on duty at the picket. The injured constable had already been shifted to BSA Hospital, Rohini.
During preliminary enquiry, she was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The police said the woman, who works in the private sector, was returning home after attending a birthday party.
A case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered in the regard and the accused was arrested.
