The Faridabad police busted a gang running a fake call centre and arrested five persons for allegedly defrauding people in the name of investment. The call centre was being run from a rented flat in Uttam Nagar, Delhi.
According to the police, a person, a resident of Bhagat colony, Ballabhgarh, lodged a complaint at the Cyber police station stating that an unidentified person added him to two WhatsApp groups - Veda Quant Council and VIP668 - where investment-related tips were shared.
The accused lured him with the promise of high returns and tricked him to download “Vent Sec Pro” app. He invested a total of Rs 3,79,450 through the app. The app showed approximately Rs 11 lakh in his account, including profits. When he tried to withdraw the amount, he could not do so. Later, he realised that he had been cheated. Based on his complaint, a case was registered at the Cyber police station, Ballabgarh.
During investigation, the police busted the gang and arrested five persons from the fake call centre. The accused have been identified as Pratap Gupta, Satender Kumar, natives of Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh; Jitender Baluni of Uttarakhand, Raj Gupta of Farrukhabad and Manoranjan Baral, alias Happy, a resident of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. At present, the accused were living in Delhi.
“The accused were today produced before a court, which sent them to judicial custody,” said a spokesperson for the Faridabad police.
