For women’s safety, 1.4 lakh cameras to come up in city

To ensure women’s security, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday inaugurated the CCTV camera project by installing one in his Patparganj constituency, where 2,000 cameras will be fixed. In all, 1.4 lakh cameras are to be installed across the national capital, including slum areas.

  Sisodia said, “The project will not end until all parts of the city come under CCTV surveillance. This is one of the biggest projects for women’s security in New Delhi. The national capital will be the third city in the world to have such a massive network of CCTV cameras.”

  Under the project, a wireless system will be run on Wi-Fi. Live feeds and footage up to 20 days old will be provided to RWA members, Station House Officers (SHOs) and a central control room at the PWD headquarters. SHOs and RWA members will get access to live feeds on their mobile phones.

  He said, “Women’s security and law and order are not under the state government, but we are doing everything within our power to enhance security for them in the city. In three months, all 1.4 lakh sanctioned cameras will be installed. The tender process for another 1.5 lakh cameras has begun. This is in addition to cameras being installed in government schools for children’s security.”

  The Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and AAP legislators have been conducting surveys to determine spots that require surveillance.
