Delhi Police has exposed a unique gang who were demanding ransom on behalf of the missing persons by calling their family members on phones.

Police suspect that the gang was collecting data of the missing people from National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB).

During the investigation of a missing 25-year-old mother and three-year-old son, police learnt about the gang. While, they have found the duo, they are now looking out for the gang involved in the crime. The missing complaint was filed by the father who lives at Gali Shashtri Wali (Malka Ganj).

On Wednesday, kidnappers called to demand Rs 8 lakh on his mobile. During the period, the lady’s mobile phone location was found in Gurugram. The Gurugram Police found the victim the next evening. She had ran away with her lover. The police have arrested the lover also.

Amidst this, the woman''s husband again received the ransom call on his mobile. Police was getting location of mobile number from nearby areas of Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh), Jodhpur (Rajasthan) and Ahmedabad (Gujarat). Police suspect that the gang was calling from a running train, so that, if put on surveillance, their location would not be traced and they can play around with the police for some time - which is a new modus-operandi.

On investigating the number from which the calls were made, it revealed that the mobile sim cards were taken by fraud identity.

According to a senior police officer, last year four people were arrested is similar type of crime.

According to a senior official of the NCRB, till August 31 this year, 693 missing persons have been reported from different states in India and majority are from Delhi.
