Panic spread through Rohini’s sector 17 on Saturday night after a man was shot dead, raising fears of another gang-related killing in the capital.
The victim, identified as Sahil Solanki, was linked to the Jitender Gogi gang. The police said he was targeted by attackers who opened fire at close range, killing him instantly.
Initial findings suggest the murder may be connected to the long-running feud between the Gogi gang and the Tillu Tajpuria gang. Investigators suspect that members of the Tajpuria faction may have carried out the attack.
Solanki had recently been released from jail, and his activities since then are now under scrutiny. Police teams are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the assailants and track their movements, an official said.
Solanki’s criminal history includes his 2021 arrest in connection with the murder of Deepak alias Radhe, an associate of the Tajpuria gang. Authorities believe this past incident may have fueled the continuing rivalry.
Both gang leaders Jitender Gogi and Tillu Tajpuria were themselves killed in separate incidents, Gogi inside Rohini Court and Tajpuria inside Tihar Jail, the police added.
Despite their deaths, the police say the feud between their gangs has persisted, claiming more than 50 lives over the years.
Following Saturday’s shooting, the police deployed additional teams in Rohini and launched a search operation to arrest the accused.
