Gang wars, extortion surging in Capital, says ex-CM Arvind Kejriwal
Slamming the BJP-led Central Government over the firing incidents at commercial shops in the past 24 hours, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said, “Law and order in Delhi has collapsed.” Miscreants targeted a luxury car showroom, a hotel and a sweets shop in the Capital.
“There is complete ‘jungle raj’. People are feeling unsafe in the nation’s Capital. Delhi’s law and order fall under Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who must take immediate and effective steps,” Kejriwal stated in a post.

The AAP criticised the Delhi Police, which reports to the Central Government under the Home Ministry, for failing to curb the rise in organised crime. During Friday’s Assembly session, AAP MLAs raised concerns about the worsening law and order situation. They said traders and business owners in Delhi have been receiving numerous extortion calls from various criminal gangs. The MLAs emphasised the need for urgent action, as the rise in such threats is undermining the safety and confidence of the city’s business community.
Addressing a press conference, Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “I can say with certainty that the law and order situation in Delhi has never been worse.” He added that gang wars and extortion are on the rise, with the city becoming infamous for the dominance of criminal elements.
“Delhi is now notorious for gangsters, gang wars and major crime lords,” Bharadwaj remarked.
Taking aim at the Lieutenant-Governor (L-G), Bharadwaj accused him of focusing more on interfering with the Delhi Government’s work than addressing the growing crime rate. “The L-G, who constantly interferes in every aspect of the Delhi Government’s work, shows no interest in fulfilling his own responsibilities. There are 209 police stations in Delhi —has the L-G visited even one?” he questioned.
Bharadwaj suggested that the L-G should accompany the Police Commissioner and Shah to inspect the sites of recent crimes.
