Germany to restore Arab Ki Sarai Baoli

NEW DELHI:Taking forward its commitment to support preservation of cultural heritage monuments, the German Embassy today entered into an understanding for the protection and restoration of the 'Arab Ki Sarai Baoli' situated in Humayun’s Tomb complex.

Taking forward its commitment to support preservation of cultural heritage monuments, the German Embassy today entered into an understanding for the protection and restoration of the 'Arab Ki Sarai Baoli' situated in Humayun’s Tomb complex.

German Ambassador Martin Ney signed a memorandum of understanding for the 16th Century complex, a walled enclosure with a grand gateway, bazaar and baoli (water stepwell), standing within the UNESCO designated World Heritage Site needs conservation work to be carried. The unique 'L' shaped baoli, an integral part ages-old ensemble of medieval monuments includes the Humayun’s Tomb complex and the Sunder Nursery monument.

The German foreign office is supporting the project with Rs 41.5 lakh for its renovation. In the past, the German Embassy cooperated with the foundation in the restoration of the Arab Ki Sarai Gateway in the Humayun’s Tomb complex and Chausath Khamba in Nizamuddin Basti, among others. — TNS
