Goa fire victims’ kin receive Rs 40 lakh aid
Four members of Delhi family died in nightclub blaze last year
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday handed over financial assistance of Rs. 10 lakh each to the families of four members of a Delhi-based family who lost their lives in a nightclub fire in Goa last year, officials said.
The assistance, amounting to a total of Rs 40 lakh, was provided at the Delhi Secretariat to the bereaved family members. Cabinet Minister and Karawal Nagar MLA Kapil Mishra was present during the handover.
The incident occurred on December 6 at the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub in Arpora, Goa, where a fire claimed the lives of Vinod Kumar (42), Anita Joshi (42), Saroj Joshi (41) and Kamla Joshi (44). All four victims belonged to the same family from Sadatpur Extension in Delhi’s Karawal Nagar Assembly constituency.
Minister Kapil Mishra said the death of four members of the same Delhi-based family in the Goa fire incident was “extremely painful and heartbreaking”. He said the tragedy was not merely an accident but also the result of serious negligence. Mishra added that he had met the family soon after the incident and informed them about the Chief Minister’s announcement of financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for each deceased.
Speaking about the impact of the tragedy, victim Bhavana Joshi said the incident had completely changed her life. She said that in a single moment she lost four members of her family and was now responsible for three elderly parents and four children. She added the assistance provided by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Minister Kapil Mishra was a great support during an extremely difficult time.
