In a major push to accelerate development in East Delhi, the Trans-Yamuna Area Development Board (TYADB) on Thursday approved projects worth nearly Rs 728 crore, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assuring that there would be no shortage of funds for roads, drainage and other essential civic amenities in the region.

Chairing the TYADB meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, the Chief Minister said development of the Trans-Yamuna area, home to almost one-third of Delhi’s population, was among the government’s top priorities.

The meeting was attended by Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra and TYADB Chairman and MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely, along with other board members. Gupta directed officials to ensure swift execution of approved works, particularly ahead of the monsoon, and stressed that damaged roads and drainage bottlenecks affecting thousands of daily commuters must be addressed urgently to prevent accidents and inconvenience.

Taking a swipe at the previous government, the chief minister said, “Prolonged inaction in the past rendered the Board ineffective, resulting in stalled development and hardship for residents.”

She further assured that all works recommended by the Board would be implemented and that no financial constraints would be allowed to impede their execution.

Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra termed the revival of the Board under Gupta’s leadership a “historic step,” saying the Trans-Yamuna region had long suffered neglect despite its growing population. “The long-standing injustice in Trans-Yamuna’s development will now end. Infrastructure development in the region would be carried out at the same level as seen in certain parts of Delhi during the Commonwealth Games,” he said, adding that roads, drainage, public amenities and tourism-related projects would receive special focus.

TYADB Chairman Arvinder Singh Lovely said proposals submitted by MLAs from the region reflected pressing civic needs and would collectively transform the area’s infrastructure. “These projects will be implemented swiftly to ensure direct and visible benefits for the public,” he said, expressing confidence in timely execution under the Chief Minister’s leadership.
