The Delhi Government on Saturday said it would build a new district courts complex in Rouse Avenue Courts. At the meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee, Finance Minister Atishi approved this project costing Rs 427 crore.

Atishi said currently there is a significant backlog of pending cases on judges and courts across the country, leading to unnecessary delays in the disposal of cases.

“Fifty-five courtrooms will be built in the new district courts complex at Rouse Avenue, which will play a crucial role in strengthening the judicial system in Delhi,” she said.

She added that this was a very important project for enhancing Delhi’s judicial infrastructure, and upon its completion, it would greatly aid in the swift disposal of judicial cases.

Atishi said speedy and accessible justice is the fundamental right of every Indian and this is possible only when adequate infrastructure is available in the courts.

The district court will consist of two blocks. Block A will have 11 stories, including three basements, a ground floor, and 55 courtrooms. Block B will have 17 stories, including three basements, a ground floor and 815 lawyer chambers. Both building blocks will be connected by a skywalk.

The new complex will be equipped with modern facilities, including a library, basement parking, a conference room and judicial offices.

The minister instructed the relevant departments to prepare a detailed timeline for the project and expedite its completion.
