In a move to enhance mobility, reduce congestion and improve commuter experience, Chief Executive Officer of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), PC Meena, conducted an inspection of several high-traffic stretches in core Gurugram on Saturday morning. The visit aimed to assess current road infrastructure, identify bottlenecks and outline critical interventions to strengthen traffic management and facilitate safe, efficient movement.
The inspection was attended by Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma, Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra, ward councilors and officials from HMRTC, GMRL, and the Infra 1 Division of GMDA.
During a visit to Old Railway Road, one of the city’s most congested corridors, CEO Meena directed officials to conduct a detailed feasibility study for an elevated corridor along the stretch. The proposed structure would run from Old Railway Road, cross the Sector 5-6 dividing junction and extend up to Sheetla Mata Road and Atul Kataria Chowk. He said the elevated corridor would significantly reduce congestion and improve connectivity between major intersections.
With a Metro corridor also planned along Old Railway Road, CEO Meena instructed HMRTC and GMRL to plan the Metro underground so both projects can be executed seamlessly and in coordination.
The second inspected stretch was Old Delhi Road, from Atul Kataria Chowk to Dundahera near the Haryana–Delhi border, one of the city’s busiest entry and exit points. Observing heavy traffic, the CEO directed officials to examine the feasibility of constructing another elevated corridor to enable smoother movement between Gurugram and Delhi, reducing travel time for commuters.
The GMDA Chief then visited the Mahavir Chowk to IFFCO Chowk stretch via Sukhrali Village, which also experiences daily congestion due to a high concentration of institutions and commuters. He instructed officials to study the feasibility of an elevated corridor here, which could streamline movement between Old Gurugram and the NH-48 corridor and improve access to the IFFCO Chowk Metro station and nearby commercial hubs.
During the visit, CEO Meena emphasised the need for integrated, long-term infrastructure planning across Gurugram. He highlighted that Metro and road development must be coordinated, particularly in dense corridors, ensuring that Metro alignments align with GMDA’s road infrastructure plans.
“These core areas of Gurugram house key public institutions, including courts, government offices, hospitals, educational establishments, and commercial hubs, and witness heavy daily traffic. GMDA will take up feasibility studies for elevated corridors along these three critical stretches to decongest the areas and improve public mobility. This will also boost connectivity to Dwarka Expressway by providing more access points from Gurugram,” Meena said.
