Delhi High Court stays Sessions Court order halting IYC chief’s bail
Was arrested for protest at AI summit
The Delhi High Court on Monday stayed a Sessions Court order that had put on hold the release of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Uday Bhanu Chib, who was arrested on February 24.
The High Court said the Sessions Court granted an interim stay on Chib’s release without explaining why this was necessary.
The High Court was pleased to stay the Sessions Court order and grant appropriate relief, thereby restoring faith in due process and the rule of law, said Advocate Roopesh Bhadauria, National Chairman, IYC Legal Cell.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to uphold the rule of law and constitutional values,” he added.
Chib was granted bail by duty magistrate Vanshika Mehta on February 28 afternoon. However, the bail order was stayed by Additional Sessions Judge Amit Bansal later in the evening on the prosecution’s application without hearing Chib.
