‘He slapped, so I killed him’: Man confesses after youth’s murder
Posts video on social media hours after incident, absconding
The man accused of fatally shooting a 24-year-old youth at a café in northeast Delhi posted a video on social media hours after the incident, confessing to the crime and claiming it was motivated by a personal grudge over a slap, the police said on Saturday.
The victim, Faizan, alias Fazzi, was shot multiple times at a café in the Maujpur area on Friday. He was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
In the video, the accused denied the involvement of any family members and asserted that there was no financial motive behind the killing.
“I killed Faizan over a personal grudge. My father had no role in this, nor did my family or friends have anything to do with it. I did not act on anyone’s instructions, and no money was involved. He had slapped me four months ago, so I took his life,” the accused said in the video.
The police said the authenticity of the video and the claims made in it were being verified. According to investigators, Faizan, a resident of Welcome, sustained fatal gunshot injuries to the head and chest.
A crime team and a forensic science laboratory (FSL) unit examined the scene and collected evidence. The café, which was operating illegally, was sealed as part of the investigation, officials said.
However, the victim’s family alleged that the murder was linked to a financial dispute. Faizan’s brother, Salman, claimed that his brother had lent approximately Rs 40,000 to the accused and that there had been previous altercations over repayment.
Speaking to the media, Salman said his brother was shot multiple times. “The police told us two rounds were fired. One bullet hit him in the head and exited, while two others struck his chest. He may also have been stabbed, as there were cuts on his hands, suggesting he resisted the attack,” he said.
Reiterating the financial angle, Salman alleged, “My brother was a simple man and had lent around Rs 40,000. When he sought his money back, the accused and his father came to our house and created a ruckus.”
He further claimed that a complaint had earlier been lodged at the Bhajanpura police station, but no action was taken. “We want justice and demand the arrest of both the father and son, along with the strictest possible punishment. The police say they are absconding,” he added.
The police said a case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the BNS and relevant provisions of the Arms Act at the Welcome police station.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the café and nearby areas to identify the accused and trace their movements before and after the incident. Teams have been deployed to conduct raids at suspected locations, and local informers have been activated to gather leads.
The police are also questioning café staff and other individuals present at the time of the incident to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
