‘Historic, growth-oriented’: BJP leaders hail Budget

The Rs 1,03,700 crore Delhi Budget for 2026–27, presented by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has drawn strong praise from BJP leaders, who termed it a “historic” and forward-looking roadmap for the Capital’s development.

Delhi Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, “This Budget is truly historic for Delhi. When we presented Rs 1 lakh crore Budget last year, several questions were raised…However, the experience and leadership of Rekha Gupta have proven that Rs 1 lakh crore Budget can be successfully implemented.”

Highlighting its environmental focus, he said, “This is a ‘Green Budget’…every effort has been made to integrate environmental considerations into each initiative,” noting that 21% of the total outlay has been earmarked for green initiatives.

Education Minister Ashish Sood pointed to the Rs 19,148 crore allocation for education, calling it a reflection of the government’s priority on human capital and future-ready learning.

Health and Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh called it a welfare-driven Budget, saying, “These allocations reflect the government’s firm commitment to ensuring accessible, affordable healthcare and building a sustainable, efficient and future-ready transport ecosystem.”

Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra emphasised the cultural push, saying, “This is a transformative Budget aimed at making youth self-reliant and reshaping Delhi…It marks a historic step towards establishing Delhi as a global cultural and tourism hub.” He highlighted the threefold jump in the tourism budget – from Rs 121 crore to Rs 412 crore, and plans to host Delhi’s first International Film Festival.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva described it as a “Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay” Budget aligned with Narendra Modi’s vision of holistic development, adding that the record outlay reflects a self-reliant fiscal model.
