The facility was formally launched earlier this week by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at Baansera Park near Sarai Kale Khan. However, with an event currently underway at Baansera Park, the rides for public will operate from Asita Park.
In July, the DDA selected a private agency to start hot air balloon rides at four locations - Yamuna Sports Complex, Commonwealth Games sports complexes and two sites along the Yamuna floodplain at Asita and Baansera.
According to officials, the ride will cost Rs 3,000 per person, excluding taxes, for an ascent of around 120 feet. Each trip will last between seven and 12 minutes and can accommodate four people at a time. The private operator will be permitted four hours of flying time daily and will run the service on a revenue-sharing model with the DDA. It has also been allowed to display advertisements on the balloons, officials added.
