New Delhi, March 2

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has razed the opulent farmhouse belonging to Ponty Chadha, who is also known as Gurdeep Singh, in Chhatarpur, South Delhi. Spread over 10 acres, the farmhouse was valued at approximately Rs 400 crore. It has become the latest casualty in the DDA's ongoing campaign against unauthorised constructions and illegal occupations on government land.

The DDA brings it down on Saturday.

The demolition operation, which commenced yesterday, has already reclaimed five acres. Today, the focus remained on dismantling the main building situated on the remaining portion of the property.

This action follows a recent demolition spree in North East Delhi, where the DDA targeted unauthorised encroachments, including commercial showrooms of brands like Raymonds, car dealerships, including that of TATA Motors, banquet halls, a hotel, and a godown, reclaiming around 4 acres of government land in Gokulpuri.

It is being claimed that the demolition of Ponty Chadha's farmhouse underscores the DDA's firm resolve to combat illegal constructions and reclaim government land, signalling no leniency towards erring individuals, irrespective of their prominence or influence.
